        • Hackers, recently launch worm attacks on WordPress community and breach security

        • - Don't fall prey to hackers breaching WordPress security, via worm attacks -

        • worm-attacksLately, many members of the WordPress community are reporting that older versions of WordPress are under a "worm attack" and this attack is growing at an alarming rate. When the worm has infected your site, it creates a backdoor via your "WordPress database", then grants access to the hackers.

          Symptoms:
          * Extra characters added to your permalink structure
          * Single posts no longer work
          * Extra administrator account, added in the user's control panel that is not visible.

To detect an extra administrator account, you will need implement a manual look up to determine the total number of admin accounts to see if that matches the amount that you have allocated. If you discover that there is an additional administrator account, you will need to access your phpMyAdmin to locate it and remove the additional account.

To avoid the possibility of being compromised, you should upgrade your version of WordPress to the latest version of 2.8.4 in WordPress. Once you have upgraded to version 2.8.4, and you find that you have been infected, then you were infected by the previous 2.8.3 versions of WordPress.

          Warnings:
          * While there are many security plugins for WordPress that work extremely well, you should not rely on them entirely. It is advisable to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress to achieve the latest-security patches and other fixes.
          * Always use strong passwords for everything, such as, WordPress admin, FTP, database, users, control panels.
