Blog CommentingRecently, I have been doing a little research on the power of blog commenting. If you do it correctly, it will drive a good amount of targeted traffic to your website. However, from what I have seen so far, many people don’t understand the concept of commenting on blogs! You need a successful blog commenting campaign, and need to know what your options are to achieve it.

First of all, blog commenting should be used as a tool. Therefore, you need to use it a proper manner that will drive traffic to your website effectively! Otherwise, you’ll end up just wasting your time and won’t land any new visitors on your site.

There are a lot of people giving advice out there, saying you need to find blogs with do-follow links and PageRank. They are over focused with these two elements of blog commenting. Therefore, you’ll end up out there in cyberspace, making blog comments with half of the information that you needed. It is my opinion that do-follow links and PageRank, shouldn’t be your primary objective when you are looking to comment on blogs!

Here is the deal. When you are commenting on other blogs. You need to find blogs that are related to your niche. Next, the objective here is to establish yourself as an expert within your niche. Therefore, there is no reason to comment on blogs that aren’t related to your blog topic. If your niche is building custom motorcycles, and you are commenting on bakery sites, what value is that to anyone? It will be very unlikely that you’ll get any traffic from your comments on such a site. You end up wasting your time and spinning your wheels, and that is something you need to avoid!

Commenting on blogs that are within your niche, should be your target. Look for sites that receive a lot of traffic, that should be included in your strategy. If you find sites that have do-follow links, then it is a plus. However, no-follow blogs will deliver as much traffic to your site, as do-follow blogs. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if the backlink passes the Google juice to you! It is all TRAFFIC!

Targeted web traffic is much easier to convert than bulk traffic. The more traffic that you have, the more potential you have in selling your products and services. Furthermore, if you are wanting to sell ad space, traffic is a must. It’s all about pageviews when you sell advertising space. PageRank doesn’t sell ad space, it is sought after people who want to increase their PageRank.

Alexa traffic rank does play a role with your credentials. It is used as a metric to determine whether or not to purchase ad space from your site. The more pageviews your site receives the better chances are that they will make a purchase from you. Their main concern is, exposure of the ads and banners!

When you comment on blogs that are related to your blog niche, make sure that your comment adds to the post topic. Don’t leave comments that are spam filled. Leaving comments such as, “nice blog and content. I’ll be back later to read more”. This adds nothing to the blog topic, and most blog owners will delete your comment. Furthermore, if the blog owner accepts these types of comments, it will dilute the blog content. Therefore, the site could eventually lose rankings in the search engine and some PageRank!

You need traffic to build your readership. Therefore, focus on content for those visitors. If you have the type of content that they want, you’ll keep them much longer on your site. Furthermore, they will probably read more of your content.

As your site matures, you’ll get PageRank. Therefore, don’t get hung up on only commenting on sites that have PR and provide do-follow links. You need a mixture of links so your backlinks appear to be naturally obtained. Furthermore, you must use other methods to build backlinks such as, forums, web directories, article directories and social networking sites. You must learn not to put all of your eggs in one basket, in order to build a safety net to protect your investment.

If you follow these tips, you’ll end up with a well balanced link structure from your blog comment efforts. You’ll build up your readership and gain their trust. As you gain authority status within your niche, your visitors will be more willing to help promote your site and link to you.

I am sure that there are more things to consider than what I have covered in this blog post. However, this will give you a little more understanding of the process on effective blog commenting!
