This past week, I launched the Spunky Jones guest post contest. It started off with a slow start with only one active contestant so far. I am hoping that there will be more people that are willing take part in this contest to make it more competitive. Did I mention, that everybody is a winner in this contest? That's right, every contestant receives a prize! It's a Win, Win, situation.Logo Contest:
I decided to have a little logo design contest on the DP forum. It will last for a few days and so far there is plenty of interest. So far, two individuals show a lot of potential as far as talent. If you are looking for logo designers, you might want to check out my thread on the DP Forum.I gave some very basic information about what I wanted for a logo. I had a goal set into place. I wanted to see what everyone has for creativity with minimum instructions given. The contest will have only one winner and that is a cash prize of $35.00.
I have decided to step things up a bit on Spunky Jones. Therefore, a more professional logo is needed in order to gain more visibility and name recognition.Web Traffic:
My web traffic continues on the upward swing. I have a pretty ratio of pages per unique visitors. This gives me a good indication that my readers are finding content that interest them. However, the downside is that 98% of the comments received are spam filled.I am getting a little excited because my web traffic is climbing ling so well. It isn't that far away that I will achieve an Alexa ranking below 100K. I know that Alexa isn't perfect. It's a metric that many people use to determine to purchase products and services. I don't currently have any products to sell. However, I do have plans to offer 125x125 ad spots on Spunky Jones. These ad spots will be limited to a quality of 4 ads! - Did I mention that everything on SJ is free? -
Comment Spam:
I thought that I had a good solution to comment spam with the "Ajax Fancy Captcha" plugin for WordPress. However, I have an issue with a plugin of some custom coding that causing the plugin to quit working. The good side of this is that the plugin stops comment spam.
I am now using DISQUS as a solution for comment spam. This is working out very well for the Spunky Jones SEO Blog. However, it does slow down the loading speed of my site a little. Therefore, I am still on the lookout for a solution for comment spam that doesn't inhibit page loading speed.Tweaking Spunky Jones:
I am still tweaking my sidebar structure a bit. So far, I am getting a lot more page views with the changes that I have made. Furthermore, my bounce rate is dropping as well. This is very pleasing! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to suggest them?WordPress Themes:
Making a little progress on the free sponsored themes that I want to release on SJ. Basically, the WP themes are ready. However, I don't want to release them with sitewide designer credits in the footer. I just want the designer link to appear on the main page. The other factor is that I would like these to be 3.0 compatible as well. Therefore, the themes are still on hold!Directory Submissions:
This past month was very good for directory submissions. Deep Link Listing and Madmouse Web Directory are the two main directories that make funds available. These funds are used to create new WordPress plugins, themes, promote my sites and pay for hosting expenses. Therefore, I encourage you to visit both directories to see what they are about.
