First of all, spam filled comments aren't appreciated on the Spunky Jones SEO Blog and will be deleted without any reservations. I know that this may seem a little harsh to many of you. However, I won't allow comments that don't add anything to the discussion topic and that will degrade my blog. Furthermore, neither should You!
Samples of generic comments that I receive regularly:

Question: Would you approve the generic comments shown above on your blog? If so, Why?
As you can see from the generic comments above, you could post them on any type of blog you wanted without reading any of the content. It is my opinion that patting me on the back, isn't going to get your comment posted. Trying to flatter me, is the wrong approach, by all means. However, if you actually read the post and add a comment that adds to the discussion, that is a good start to get my attention.
I spend a fair amount of time surfing the web and visiting popular sites. It makes me sick to see people setting for generic comments, just so they have comments on their blog. It doesn't matter if your new or an old timer, it's a sure way to degrade your blog! Furthermore, you're putting a choke hold on your blog and choking what life force you have, right out of it. It's totally insane!
Why is it so important to be bigger than life, is a question that I ask myself over and over? To me, settling for spam filled comments is in the same ball park of writing duplicate content, stealing content, writing bad content. No matter which way I add things up, it does not compute! Is it laziness, or that people are that misinformed? I, for one would like to know what other people think about this subject?
Quite a while ago, my previous mentor told me that a comment is a comment. That it is traffic, even if it is spam. That spam comments increase your web traffic stats and Alexa rankings. I could never accept this as something that is ethical to do. To me, it's a method to boost your status and make people think that you get a lot of traffic. Most people believe what they see, and big Alexa's stats convince them that you got status! The problem with this is, if you were to strip away all the worthless traffic, they wouldn't look so big after all! Would they? As I have said before, it is an illusion that is projected to you. It's not real and it's not ethical!
I haven't always done things right, by any means. However, I have learned from my mistakes and use caution not to repeat them again. This subject on comment spam, I just don't understand and have a very negative opinion on. Maybe, I'm not looking at this in the correct perspective here and missed the boat?
