        • Getting the Most, Out of Your New Domain Name!

        • - If you want more, it will require some extra thought from you -

        • Legal Domain NameWhen you are deciding on what your next "Domain Name" is going to be for your new blog creation, you will need to put some extra thought into it. You'll need to think about what products and services, that you want to offer your visitors. Furthermore, you should consider your needs for targeted traffic from the search engines as well.

The name that you choose will play a very important role of marketing your products, and name branding. You'll need to choose a name that is easy to read and to remember. It should contain a main keyword or keyword phrase that describes your niche. If the name you have chosen is long, you'll want to use hyphens to separate the words. Remember, that hyphens are uses by the search engines as separators to extract the words from your Domain name more accurately.

Here is what you need to consider when you are picking a name for your new or next blog:
          * Many directories won't allow you to have a keyword rich title for your listing.
          * Many directories require you to use your legal Domain name, unless you are purchasing a featured listing.
          * Not having any keywords in your URL, works against you for ranking for your keyword term and phrases.
          * Once you have picked your name and launch your blog, you are pretty much stuck with it for life.

Next, I will provide you with some examples to show you how to use keywords in your Domain name.
          spunkyjones.com

          Legal name: [Spunky Jones]
This type of name is mainly used for name branding and offerers no SEO value as far as keywords are concerned.

          spunkyjonesseoblog.com
Legal name: [Spunky Jones SEO Blog]
However, this is hard to read.
Please note, how the double "s" characters in the name, make it harder to visually extract the name by your visitors. It is my opinion, that using double characters next to each other, increase the percentage of search engine extraction errors.

          spunky-jones-seo-blog.com
Legal name: [Spunky Jones SEO Blog]
          This is easy to read.
This is a good name for keyword usage and name branding.

          - - Next example, I will go for a little longer name - -

          spunky-jones-seo-optimization-blog.com
Legal name: [Spunky Jones SEO Optimization Blog]
This is easy to read. However, it is said that too many hyphens could be considered as a spam.

          - - Therefore, I will most likely use the following name when dealing with longer names - -

          spunkyjones-seo-optimization-blog.com
Legal name: Spunky Jones SEO Optimization Blog
Reads good and hyphens are at a minimum level.
This is a good name for keyword usage and name branding.
Please note: I am allowing the search engines to extract "spunkyjones" and separating my keywords, by the use of hyphens.

Using this tactic, you will be able to submit to more directories that would charge you extra for a keyword rich listing. If that directory won't allow keywords in the title tag for their free or regular listings, you are set to go. Your legal name includes the primary and/or secondary keyword.

As I have said, a listing such as, [Spunky Jones} is mainly good for name banding. It is much harder to rank for my keywords, because I didn't include them in my Domain name. If I were to do it all over again, I would have chosen the following.
          spunky-jones-seo-optimization.com

If I wanted to run all the words together, I would choose the following.
          spunkyjoneswordpressoptimization.com
As you can see, I have avoided using double characters. This makes it a little easier for humans to read, and for search engines to extract the words for the title tag.

When you use keywords in your legal Domain name, you give the search engines more to work with. Search engines, give a lot of weight to the title tag for your rankings in the SERPS. Therefore, you have a better chance of obtaining more web exposure and traffic from the search engines.
Organic web traffic is some of the best that you can get. It is targeted traffic coming from the search engines, consisting of people who are interested in your products and services. Therefore, you are more likely to convert those visitors into sales!

          Additional comments:
Using hyphens in your Domain name aren't as effective as they use to be. However, it is still effective if you don't over use it and spam.

Hope this blog post was helpful to you, "Getting the Most, Out of Your Domain Name!"
