Almost, any backlink will carry some importance as far as the search engines are concerned for search engine optimization. However, it is more important that the backlink and anchor text link is closely related to the niche of your website. Furthermore, if the backlink happens to have PageRank, that is an extra bonus in the world of search engine optimization.

For example, if your blog is about "SEO Optimization" and you want to rank well in the search engine results for this keyword phrase, you need to find quality backlinks and use "SEO Optimization" as the anchor text in the backlink. It is that simple!

You need to avoid backlinks such as, "click here" and/or non-related keyword terms that pertain to your niche. If you would happen to have a nice link on a web page that has a PageRank of PR6, it will not do you much good if the tern is non-related to your site. Furthermore, you would actually benefit more from a PR1 link with the keyword term, "SEO Optimization", when in comparison to "click here".

As I have stated that most backlinks carry weight with the search engines, are concerned. However, it will most likely only add a little to your PageRank and not your search engine rankings for your keyword terms.

Basic SEO Tips to follow:
* Avoid using the same anchor text link and pointing it at the same page. You need to break up your anchor text link terms a bit and point them at other pages in your website. If your primary keyword is, "SEO Optimization", then you will want to use other anchor text terms such as, "search engine optimization", "optimization", "SEO" and other terms that are related to "SEO Optimization". In doing this, you will also rank for your primary keyword term.

* Also, keep in mind that ten links from different related websites are better than ten links from one related website.

* Don't focus on just getting links from do-follow web sites. While a do-follow link will deliver you targeted traffic and pass PageRank, a no-follow link will just deliver you targeted traffic. Having a mixture of both, will look more natural to the search engines, and you will avoid penalties.
