Off-page optimization is quite commonly referred to as, inbound link building. For directory submissions, I suggest that you start with just a couple of daily submissions and increase it by two more, every three to four days.

* Distribution of links that appears unnatural!
Distribution of your links so they are unnatural is another problem, which leads to over optimizing off-page optimization.

If you have 100 sites that are linking to you, and they also have links pointing back at each other, this will appear very unnatural to the search engines and it will look more like a link farm to them.

Best way, is to get one-way links coming from sites, which do not inter-link with one and another.

* Distribution of anchor text that appears unnatural!
The third and last issue is, unnatural anchor text distribution.

When you submit your site to directories and blogs, you need to use different anchored text. It needs to look more natural, so make sure you have different variations of your title and descriptions when accruing inbound links.
