Optimizing page text is a must have in order to rank well in the search engines. Furthermore, when search engines review your web page to determine your ranking position, body text is taken into consideration. Your source code may not have much overall SEO value for many search engines. However, your page title and web page text are the most two important elements of optimizing your web site.
Sites that use a large amount of flash, java and graphic images are more than likely not ranking very well in the SERPS. Search engines are limited and can’t read any text that is contained within the image its self. However, search engines can read the image alt tag if properly formatted. Most web designers biggest mistakes are using navigation menus and image maps in a graphic image form. You are better off to make use of CSS for such things, because its search engine friendly.
The key to optimizing your web site, is to optimize your page text with keywords and keyword phrases within <body> of your page. Using keywords in your page content, provides the search engines the means of detecting what the directive of the post is about.
You should start off your sentences with your keywords and/or keyword phrases near the beginning of the sentence. It is also a good idea to repeat the keyword a few times in the page as well. Furthermore, Bolding and Italicizing the text, gives it more importance and weight. However, you should avoid keyword spamming and stick with writing content rich material for the search engines. The main goal is to write for humans, so that your material can be read in a natural way that doesn’t distract your readers.
If you use frames in your web site layout, the chances of ranking well in the SERPS are lowered drastically. Therefore, I strongly suggest using frames from a SEO perspective. However, if you do use frames, be sure to write a short description that includes information about your site, then add it the <noframes> section. This way, you provide the means for the search engines to read and index your text. Furthermore, I advise that you include a homepage link in that area as well.
Java Script is another issue that needs to be addressed. It is advised to use java to a minimum or to avoid it completely. If you need to implement javascript, you should place all of your java source code into one separate file and call it from a single line from the head section of your web page.
Example of your javascript code to point at the JS file:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=”JavaScript” type=”text/javascript”
src=”replace-with-JavaScript-file-name.js”></SCRIPT>
Let’s take a closer look at titles and heading tags. Long tail keywords are important to implement in your web page content. This isn’t a must, if you can use long tail keyword phrases, it will be helpful to deliver organic search engine traffic to your site.
A good start is to repeat your primary and secondary keywords a few times in your visible content area. It is best to use two and three word keyword terms, repeating your keyword once every 100 words of text. However, since search engines are more advanced these days, using alternate/related keywords is advised as well.
The first sentence and paragraph contain the most weight as far as text content goes. Be sure to include an outgoing link and bold and italic your primary and secondary keyword and phrases. This also will have some influence on the document’s readability. However, don’t over do it so that it annoys your readers.
