        • Designing a Personal Mission Statement

        • - Make your company's or corporate slogan visual -

        • personal-mission-statementMission statements for corporations are a way to publicize the company's purpose. Sometimes the mission statement is a slogan that is repeated on signs all over the company, as billboards, and as you walk into a place of business. The mission statement gives customers and its employees the understanding of why the business exists and what the values are for that business.

Creating a personal mission statement is the same thing. It is dedicating yourself to your core values and beliefs. Not only do you personalize it, but it will never be the same as anyone else. A personal mission statement should make you feel proud, bring inspiration, and sometimes (as it did me) bring you to tears because it is a focus on things you truly believe in.

There are many search engines that offer advice on how to write a personal mission statement. Although, it is all in looking into your own self, your soul, your way of living day to day. The structure of your mission statement can be straight-forward and simple, it could be a paragraph, or a couple of sentences. It could contain common sense, religion, daily practices, whatever. Just know it is yours and not something you update every couple of years, it is a life-long practice.

I went with the straight-forward, simple approach. It seems like a lot of content, but it is what I create and what I want to focus my time into. My personal mission statement created in 2003:

I will use the most out of my abilities to learn, create, and explore.

I will love, care, and put effort in the relationships that are important to me.

I will make every effort to acknowledge and appreciate those that have helped me throughout life.

I will love and make an effort to show my love to my family.

I will not take love or other people's love for granted.

I will empower, be open-minded, and grow as an individual.

I will not make promises I cannot keep.

I will learn, teach, and set examples of good morals.

I will smile, have fun, and be fun.

I will make an effort for my happiness in myself and my surroundings.

I will make things that are truly important to me, like family and friends, a priority.

I will make long and short term goals for myself.

I will give time, listen actively, and try to deeply understand others when communicating.

A personal mission statement is a growth process, a reference guide for you to go by, a key to personal fulfillment, actions and not just words, a way of life created by you. What are the core values you want to work on?  What is important to you and your way of living?
