I find it totally amazing about what blog comments can achieve for a blogger and the amount of bloggers that don't understand the benefits that can be reaped by utilizing the power of blog commenting! In this brief Spunky Jones scenario where the blog commenter is in comparison to the early bird, the early bird will most often catch the most worms day in and day out. However, in this case, the blogger needs to be among the 1st to comment on a blog with a related topic niche in order to maximize their catch.
Most blogs list their comments in a chronological order from oldest to newest post. Because of this, it is very unlikely that people will read past the first 50 comments, unless it is a pacific topic of interest to them and the comments are of quality content. However, if the blog owner allows spam comments, like "Great Post", "Good Read", "Very useful article. Thanks for sharing", these types of posts will be likely to deterrent most people from reading any further and your comment will probably never be read by any human beings.
Therefore, being among the first early birds to comment on popular blogs with something that is relevant to the subject matter and contributes to the post, is your number one goal at hand, because it will help your blog commenting campaign to yield the best returns possible for you.
- - Things you can achieve with blog comments: - -
* Reaction with the blog owner
* Reaction with the blog owners readers
* Friendship with the blog owner and his readers
* Establish yourself as an authority within your niche
* Name branding
* Create a network with other bloggers
* Increase your targeted web traffic
* Build some quality backlinks
In my opinion, it is best to think of blog comments more on the lines for networking with the owner of the site and building a mutual relationship for future benefits that will be beneficial for both parties.
- - Some of the do's and don'ts of blog commenting: - -
- - Do's: - -
* Post on quality blogs that are related to your site's niche and filter out spam comments. If the blog owner allow spam comments as described in the second paragraph above, then I would suggest that you look for another blog to comment on. Remember, quality is much more important factor here than quantity of blogs you participate in.
* Always read the blog post before you leave your comment. If you don't understand the post, then find another post which you understand, then leave a quality comment that adds to the post content.
* Think of blog commenting in the long term, just don't focus on getting immediate returns.
* Use the power of blog commenting to develop relationships with blog authors whom seek the long term and ongoing value.
* Make friends with people who are in the same niche, that can be of assistance to helping you achieve your goals.
* Occasionally, comment on blogs that use the do-follow tag, using targeted keywords and phrases to increase your search engine rankings for your website. Remember that obtaining backlinks too fast can get you flagged by the search engines because your links won't look natural. Furthermore, comment on no-follow blogs related to your niche, because it will generate targeted traffic as well.
* Find a variety of sources for your backlinks than just focusing on solely commenting on blogs, comment on forums and social networking.
* If you don't agree with somebody, state your position and provide some facts to help back it up. Learn to become a visitor that knows when it is time to go home!
* Bookmark the site for future visits. You'll need to revisit the site and post again because one time posters are usually marked as people who are just looking for the link and some quick web traffic.
- - Don'ts: - -
* Rely totally on blog commenting as only means of web traffic or your backlink building strategy.
* Never skim over the post and write a very generic brief comment, hoping to get some quick traffic and immediate visibility. Take off the blinders and don't short sheet yourself. Furthermore, if that is all that you are looking forward to getting out of it, then you will end up missing the ride for the long haul!
* Do not the mistake and rely upon do-follow blogs solely for backlinks, or it will eventually look unnatural to the search engines and could get you flagged!
* Never post the same generic comments over and over on other blogs. Avoid being tagged as a spammer and damaging your repetition and credibility.
* Become a comment hound that tries to take control of the post topic and doesn't let other voice their opinions.
I have only covered a small portion of the do's and don'ts which come to mind as the more important ones, when on the topic of blog commenting. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to suggest them.
Additional thoughts:
* Always think smart, work smart and then work hard.
* Retrain your current mindset about blog commenting and learn how to apply it for the long haul because that will reap you many benefits in the future.
* You need to be efficient and know what you are after, just like a champion fisherman who knows what bait to select and use for the type of fish, they are wanting to catch.
