Having assessed whether what you are doing is already as efficient as it could be, then you need to move forwards.
It is time to assess the visitors to your site, and discover whether you are delivering what they need. You can find this out with free tools, instead of needing to part with your hard-earned cash..
Which free tools are you using?
Google Webmaster Tools, Google Analytics, and Google Goals are just three of the many available, but we know they work, so we will focus on them.
The first allows you to check basic things like whether your site works for the Google spiders/bots, and offers you chances to find and then optimize your site for the top keywords so that it shows in the search engine results.
Google Analytics tells you who is visiting your site, where they came from, what they do on your site, how sticky your site is, and whether anything is broken. It is of constant amazement that many people don't know who comes in through their website 'front door' – take a long, hard look at your traffic stats.
Google goals allow you to set paths up through your site to see whether anyone buys a product, or achieves a specific target such as signing up to your newsletter or blog.
Using these tools allows you to assess whether, historically and recently, your website has been achieving what is was built to do.
If your website is not doing its job, then there are potentially some very easy changes that can be made to resolve the issues which the Google tools will bring to light. We will cover these three main areas in the next articles in the series.
